Positive coverage decision expands access to focused ultrasound for more than 1 million Americans living with Parkinson’s Disease.

HAIFA, Israel and MIAMI, FL (April 17, 2025) – Insightec, a global healthcare innovator dedicated to using focused ultrasound to transform patient care, today announced that Aetna is now the first national payor to offer commercial coverage of therapeutic ultrasound treatment for tremor-dominant Parkinson’s Disease (PD). In addition, Anthem provides coverage for unilateral pallidotomy for the motor complications of PD. These milestone decisions expand access to the incisionless treatment alternative for people when their medications have been unsuccessful.

Focused ultrasound, pioneered by Insightec, has emerged as an incisionless outpatient treatment option for patients with tremors that remain disabling even with optimized medications. With this latest decision, an additional 39 million lives are now covered for tremor-dominant PD, bringing the total number of insured lives with access to the procedure to 59 million—including those covered through local Medicare Administrative Contractors. For unilateral pallidotomy for the motor complications of PD, Anthem covers 34.5 million lives.

“This is a meaningful milestone towards our mission to improve the quality of life and care for people living with Parkinson’s Disease” said Maurice R. Ferré, M.D., Insightec CEO and Chairman. “With Parkinson’s expected to affect 1.2 million Americans by 2030—and as our population continues to age—ensuring equitable access to effective, incisionless treatment is more important than ever. These decisions not only expand access today, but they also help lay the groundwork for us in the future.”

There are currently 83 treatment centers in the U.S. and 192 treatment centers around the world using Insightec’s Exablate® Neuro platform. Over 22,000 patients have been treated globally with the platform for movement disorders, including Essential Tremor and PD.
